“Every bit of love in life is worth cherishing going forward, human or nature.”
T’was December 28, 2019 and the renowned Museum of Modern Arts had just reopened after Christmas. It was packed.
Alice met with me on 51th St and 7th, and we decided to walk over. This was part of our chat in the middle of the cold Manhattan Streets.
Meet Alice. Boston U Alum, Communication specialist, part-time New Yorker, fulltime life-lover, traveler, guitarist, and coincidentally, my high school classmate. With pleasure.
Midtown NYC hits different than SOHO. It is not homey, it’s tall, scary, fast, and in a hurry. Alice zoomed across 5 blocks leaving my slow Boston ass stumbling to catch up at the intersections.
“Every time I come to MoMA there’s always something new on.”
“Or I could always make new meanings off old exhibits.”
“That’s why I love New York. It’s fluid. No, it’s actually gas. It changes by the milisecond.”
I lost Alice for a seond on the fifth floor where the museum was having an exhibition featuring interior designs and home improvements. I looked around-and there she is, by the “Kitchen Window”. She wasn’t paying attention, so when she looked back, My shutter was there waiting for her.
“What do you think about people and social media then?”
I asked Alice who’s working in the communication industry about people and social media when I saw some paintings being swarmed by phones and instagrams, and some others left along, simply because of their fame.
“Your eyes are your frame and mouth a post button. People literally IS social media yet they don’t realize that. It’s not about how you look in others’ feeds, it’s about you and around you.”
“This would usually be the Golden Hour, but because NYC’s buildings block the sunlight, it’s just Blue Hour now.”
But what I like about New York the most, is when the lights are on. Then there is no “hour”, because it’s always lit.
Alice seems to agree.
Rockerfeller’s Christmas Tree is up, and everyone is happy.
“I’m happy too. Happy to hang out and talk to my friend since high school. Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about.”

I want to use this blog to honor Alice.
Since February, 2020, the world has changed drastically and unfortunately alot of people were impacted. As I type these words down, Alice is back home in China and is not able to rejoin us in the U.S. I miss her dearly and wish she can return safely and swiftly, so maybe MoMA can be on our NYC list again.
